About Carrie

Carrie Bobenhausen, MA, MS, SEP
Somatic Experiencing Practitioner
Trauma and Somatic Integration Specialist

I believe the body holds an innate capacity for healing. My work is grounded in Somatic Experiencing®, a gentle, body-oriented approach that supports the nervous system in restoring regulation, resilience, and a renewed sense of safety. Rather than focusing solely on thoughts or memories, Somatic Experiencing works with the body's natural wisdom, allowing healing to unfold at a pace that honors your nervous system.

I specialize in supporting individuals experiencing the effects of developmental trauma, shock trauma, chronic stress, and chronic pain. Together, we create a steady, collaborative space where your nervous system can move from patterns of protection and survival toward greater balance, flexibility, and connection.

While Somatic Experiencing is the foundation of my practice, I also draw upon Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed work and Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) when appropriate. These complementary approaches deepen our understanding of the relationship between the brain, body, and nervous system, supporting lasting healing and integration.

My hope is that you experience our work together as one of curiosity, compassion, and respect. Healing doesn't come from forcing change—it emerges as your nervous system discovers new experiences of safety, connection, and possibility.

A Note About My Practice

I believe it is important to be transparent about the services I provide. While I hold professional mental health licensure in other states, I am not licensed as a mental health provider in the state of Tennessee.

At Southeast Somatic, I offer services as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). My work focuses on nervous system regulation, somatic integration, resilience, and supporting the effects of stress, trauma, and chronic pain through body-based, educational, and experiential approaches. These services are not psychotherapy or mental health treatment.

During our initial consultation, we'll explore what you're hoping to receive from our work together and determine whether my services are an appropriate fit for your goals. If psychotherapy, mental health counseling, medical care, or another level of support would better meet your needs, I will gladly help connect you with appropriate providers and community resources.

My commitment is to practice within the scope of my training and qualifications while helping you find the care that best supports your well-being.

My goal is to provide a space where you feel informed, respected, and supported in finding the approach that best serves your healing. Whether we work together or I help you connect you with another provider, I want you to receive the care that is right for you.
